Clippership Wharf

Lumenpulse Element Columns help to open a Boston wharf's welcoming arms to visitors and residents alike. A great way to build civic pride and safety, factory modified Element Columns give the finishing touches to this seaside landscape.

After two abandoned shipping wharves in East Boston were turned into a residential and commercial destination, Lumen Studio chose specially modified Lumenpulse Element Columns to “greet” and welcome visitors to the exciting site.

In order to give the outdoor area a “wow” factor that would draw people into the site, the stylized Element Columns were fashioned and installed to look like leaning wands of light. As inspiration, Lumen Studio, Inc. wanted to create a gateway element to the site that was representative of the unique character and history of the area. A striking local element, the abandoned and leaning wooden wharf pilings just offshore, became the motif for the Element Column modification and installation. Lumenpulse was able to take Lumen Studio, Inc.’s design and modify a tried-and-true luminaire to help the lighting design celebrate this part of the site’s history.

“There were a number of challenges on this project, given its close proximity to the ocean. One of the greatest challenges actually had to do with this specific fixture. We approached numerous manufacturers with our vision of creating “leaning pylons of light” as a gateway to the site, but many manufacturers were concerned about water ingress issues. Lumenpulse was the only company that was willing to help us realize our vision. It was truly a collaborative design effort to combine our conceptual goals with the reality of manufacturing a fixture that would work in this environment” said Lukas J. Sturm, Principal, Lumen Studio, Inc.

Visitors and locals agree, the end result was worth the effort. Not only is the site more welcoming, but it has found its way onto many a camera roll while boosting visits and pride in area. A little lighting can go a long way.
