YETI Coolers Retail

Due to their many eye-pleasing attributes, Lumenpulse luminaires are the perfect match for this retail outlet in South Carolina.

Retail lighting is a tricky business. To capture and hold the attention of potential customers while also showcasing products and creating a "vibe" is no small feat for any lighting system. Gabler Youngston Architectural Lighting Design took on this daring undertaking in order to expertly illuminate the new YETI retail store in Charleston, South Carolina.

Located on a high-visibility corner in Charleston, it was important that the store not only is illuminated well from within but that it also created a strong presence in the surrounding area. The YETI store needed versatility. They not only wanted retail lighting that they could adapt to changing displays, but they also planned to host events with live music and film projection. To meet these requirements, Gabler Youngston Architectural Lighting Design chose Lumenpulse luminaires for their design.

The Lumenpulse Spot M2 luminaires that were chosen had one of the most important tasks in the lighting design; they are not only providing the primary lighting to the space, they are also highlighting YETI's products. "We chose Lumenpulse [Spot M2 luminaires] for several reasons," said Michael Marvin, Lighting Designer at Gabler Youngston Architectural Lighting Design. "Firstly, Lumenpulse has some of the cleanest and most aesthetically pleasing track heads out of any manufacturer. The fact that Lumenpulse ingrates all of the fixture components into one clean cylinder was a big deal in meeting the minimalist feel of the space that the architect and ownership were trying to achieve."

"Secondly, we wanted to use Lumenpulse because of the simplicity and versatility of the track system," explained Marvin, "Again, it's a straightforward system to specify and looks clean and minimal. Thirdly, we wanted Lumenpulse because of the high color rendering options offered. Good color rendering in a retail environment can be everything. Products stand out and pop so much better with good color rendering."

The Spot M2 also helped the design team overcome a few structural challenges onsite. The tracks had to be suspended from an open ceiling, among ductwork and structural reinforcements. The luminaires had to placed strategically to avoid casting shadows on columns while still being able to highlight the products below and the historic architecture properly. The numerous beam spreads and outputs, as well as the clean, minimalist aesthetic of the luminaires, allowed them to blend with the structure while still placing light where it needed to be. Marvin said this was one of the reasons Lumenpulse luminaires were chosen, "Lastly, we specified Lumenpulse because of the incredible number of options that we had with the track heads. Because of the many different types of displays, we had to be able to dial in the pretty precise beam spreads and fixture outputs, and so we needed a fixture with a high range of flexibility in order to do that."

Gabler Youngston's lighting design does what the best of retail lighting is meant to do, it captures and keeps the attention of customers and passersby while inspiring them not only to potentially purchase but to see the products and brand in the best of light to inform them and show that nothing is hidden in the shadows.

We specified Lumenpulse because of the incredible number of options that we had with the M2 fixture. Because of the many different types of displays, we had to be able to dial in the pretty precise beam spreads and fixture outputs, and so we needed a fixture with a high range of flexibility in order to do that.
